Abstract

The role of ships as a means of sea transportation is very necessary to support the level of distribution of inter-island economic progress and technological, cultural and other advances in a country. So in this case it is necessary to improve how to develop the transportation department in order to improve the services in shipping that are as good as possible in the interests of the wider community. For personnel who have learned a lot about, will be very familiar with the objective of this code, which is ensuring safety at sea, preventing injury or loss of human life and avoiding environmental damage. The International Ship and Port Facility Security Code is an international regulation on ship safety and port facilities, consisting of two parts, part A and part B. part A contains mandatory requirements for government, ships / companies, and port facilities, while part B contains guidelines. Based on the description above, the writer tries to write a paper with the title " The Role of Tanjung Perak Surabaya Syahbandar in Supervision of the International Safety Management Code ". With the method of data collection both Observation, Interview, and Library Research that the authors collect, accurate discussion of the problem can be taken. Safety and security are the main requirements in the design of crossing modes. In accordance with the awareness of the importance of human factors and the need to improve the operational management of ships in preventing ship accidents, cargo / cargo, and property as well as preventing pollution of the marine environment, the IMO issued regulations on ship safety management and protection of the marine environment, known as regulations International Safety Management (ISM Code). The results obtained in this paper indicate that the safety and security of shipping, especially in sea transportation in the Tanjung Emas Semarang Harbor, have largely met the provisions of the ISM Code.
