Abstract

The world of marine transportation is very prone to accidents either caused by human factors (human error) or technical errors of transportation means. In the world of shipping, GMDSS equipment is a system that must be owned by commercial ships. The function of the global maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS) in an emergency / disaster at sea is to improve safety or minimize casualties and facilitate rescue efforts of ships, in the event of an accident or emergency at sea. The implementation of the GMDSS practice is communication with the aim of understanding the news about an emergency (for example: a ship is sinking). The implementation of good operating procedures and understanding parts of GMDSS can be understood by every ship crew, such as how to communicate ship to ship when ask ing for help, so th at when carrying out the distress communication procedure there is no misunderstanding. For this reason, the authors compile this paper. Because the GMDSS operating procedure is very important for shipping safety in the event of a distress at sea to overcome misinformation in the delivery of news in an emergency, prevent misinformation and operate the GMDSS tool to communicate. The application of the GMDSS operating procedure is very important because it involves how to communicate when a distress occurs at sea. Keywords: GMDSS,effort, safety, navigation.
