Abstract

Many problems arise in the world of shipping and receive major attention, namely the smoothness and safety of shipping lanes. During the voyage at Tanjung Intan Port, Cilacap, the presence of a Pilot plays an important role. This aims to maintain and improve safety and smooth operation in the shipping channel of Tanjung Intan Cilacap Port. After making observations, the writer wants to know how the Pilot are doing in carrying out their duties as in the process to maintain and improve the smooth and safe shipping lanes and the procedures that are carried out from beginning to end. In this study, the authors used descriptive qualitative methods. Qualitative method is a research procedure that produces descriptive data using facts and events by means of observation, direct interviews with subjects who know about this incident. Based on the discussion that has been stated in the previous chapters. The results of the research that have been obtained are that the Pilot and their guidance services are one of the important elements in the safety and smoothness of a port's shipping lanes. Pilot Tanjung Intan Cilacap in carrying out his duties has been running well and according to procedures, such as playing the role of giving instructions to the jury / duty officer who will then be ordered by the ship captain and can moor safely and smoothly.
