Abstract

Generator Set or abbreviated as Genset is an auxiliary machinery for a combination of power plants combined in a set that produces electricity from mechanical forces (machines) to become electricity. This process is known as the generation of electrical energy. Although generators and motors have similarities, motors are devices that convert electrical energy into mechanics. Before the relationship between magnetism and electricity was discovered, generators used the electrostatic principle, which is a branch of physics that deals with the force exerted by a static electric field (unchanging / moving) on another charged object. The function of the generator set on the ship is to supply the electricity needs of the ship. Electric power is used to drive motors from auxiliary equipment in engine rooms and deck machines, anchor machines, refrigerators, lighting, communication and navigation systems, air conditioning and ventilation, galleys, fire alarms and systems, and so on. In operation and maintenance, you will know how to take steps / operate and maintain a good and correct generator set thus reducing the occurrence of more severe damage, considering that the replacement of spare-parts is currently considered very expensive so that maintenance reduces costs. Keywords: Generator Set, Function, Operation, Maintenance.
