Abstract
Leadership is a trait that must be possessed by a leader to achieve the goals of an organization. The role to be a good Master to lead the ship has a great responsibility. However, the fact is, that becoming a Master is not easy. Because he has to face various problems and find solutions to solve problems during his leadership. This research aims to identify the problems that the Master face during his leadership in KN PRAJAPATI and to know the efforts to solve it and how the leadership of Master on board (KN PRAJAPATI). This paper is a qualitative descriptive study. The source of this research data is based on primary data derived from direct observations in KN PRAJAPATI and secondary data derived from national maritime publications. Data collection techniques are conducted using interviews and literature studies. The results showed that Master's leadership in KN PRAJAPATI was successful. Master's leadership at KN. PRAJAPATI has been following the provisions stated in the ISM Code 5.1 and has the characteristics of a good leader, namely: competent in directing and managing the crew KN. PRAJAPATI, understand the problems that exist more deeply and able to find solutions in solving the problem, able to read the situation in making decisions, have a strong mental and physical, can communicate well, and can motivate the crew in working so that the performance on the ship can run well. The problems that occurred at KN PRAJAPATI were caused by the indiscipline of the crew. Master's efforts to deal with the problems that occurred in KN PRAJAPATI by improving communication, then reprimanded and instructed not to repeat it. Besides, Master also routinely held meals together after the trip to familiarize the crew. Keywords: Leadership, Master, Obstacles, ISM Code 5.1
