Abstract
The generator is an auxiliary engine on board the ship that produces electricity with mechanical power input. Meanwhile, the motion of the generator is obtained from the combustion process of diesel fuel. In current power plants, mostly diesel motor power is used because it is more efficient and the rotation generated to produce electricity is more efficient and stable. Given the important role of generators, maintenance and operation are needed so that generator performance remains efficient. At the time of maintenance it is also necessary to pay attention to special parts because each component has a different treatment method. Therefore, generator maintenance is divided based on the method and time of maintenance. Maintenance of generator components, among others: rotor, stator, excitation system. The proper operation and maintenance of the generator aims to make the performance of the generator on board more efficient and also to extend the life of the generator. In addition, by carrying out routine generator operation and maintenance, it also aims to avoid damage and failure of the generator system. Keywords: Generator, Maintenance, Operation
