Abstract

Bunker is the provision of fuel for use by ships and includes ship logistics to load fuel and distribute it among the available bunkering tanks. The ship's routine activity in daily life is bunkering. Refueling on board can be diesel oil, cargo etc. Refueling or diesel oil requires care and caution to prevent any kind of fire accidents and oil spills that may occur on board. Implementation of the bunker must be in accordance with the procedure and handled by an experienced machinist. Fuel spill during bunkering is a type of pollution that has a large enough impact in the long term, causing pollution which results in biodegradation and damage to underwater ecosystems. Indirectly, marine pollution due to fuel oil with its complex arrangement can destroy marine resources and disturb the fertility of the mud on the seabed. Fuel spills during bunkers are caused by several factors, including in terms of inappropriate bunker implementation procedures, communication errors between ships shipper and supplier ship, ship crew negligence, damage to equipment systems. Efforts made to deal with handling a fuel spill when the bunker is on board must be carried out with standard equipment and always check the equipment regularly, follow proper fuel spill handling procedures and increase supervision during bunker implementation. Keywords: Bunkers, fuel spills, marine pollution.
