Abstract

Indonesia is the largest maritime country in the world, 2/3 of Indonesia's territory is a sea area. One of the means of sea transportation is sea transportation in the form of a ship which is a very vital means of transportation for carrying passengers, goods and vehicles. This study aims to see the effect of the role of the skipper, crew resources, and the handling of sailing safety partially on passenger safety. The population in this study was taken from passengers on the Express Bahari 3F ship for the period November 2019 at Jepara - Karimunjawa Port and the sample used in this study were 160 respondents. The sampling technique used was nonprobability sampling with the type of sampling, namely incidental sampling. The analytical method used in this research is descriptive analysis and quantitative analysis, then the data is analyzed using multiple linear regression with the help of (software) Statistic Package For Social Science (SPSS). Hypothesis test results show that the variables of the role of the captain, crew resources, and handling of sailing safety have a partial effect on passenger safety. The results of multiple linear regression analysis obtained Y = -1.155 + 0.435X1 + 0.275X2 + 0.382X3 + µ. From this equation, it is known that the most dominant variable that affects the safety of passengers is the role of the master variable with a regression coefficient of 0.435. The R2 (R square) test resulted in a result of 0.549 or 54.9%, which means that passenger safety is equal to the variables of the role of the master, crew resources and the handling of sailing safety, namely 54.9% and other factors that affect passenger safety, namely 45.1 %. Keywords: The role of the master, crew resources, handling of sailing safety, and safety of passengers.
