Abstract
Advances in marine science and technology, especially the shipping industry, have resulted in an increasing application of the sea in the field, so the potential for pollution to the marine environment is also increasing. Ship accidents that have occurred, which resulted in the sea being polluted, have raised awareness that the sea must be preserved for its survival to create a future. The date sources of this research are literature, observation, interviews which are then analyzed. From the results of this study it can be seen that marine pollution must be prevented by the provisions contained in MARPOL. Indonesian must require a law that regulates the protection of the sea from pollution originating from ships, and in practice the implementation must strictly follow the rules that have been stated in laws or government regulations.
