Abstract

We already know that most of the international trade in Indonesia is carried out by sea using ships as transportation vehicles. In the Indonesian shipping channel, especially in the Semarang shipping channel, there are still many ships that do not meet international standards. Events that often occur in Semarang shipping lanes are the risk of ship collision hazards and so on. According to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention, all ships must have an Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) which is applied with the ECDIS Electronic Chart Display and Information System. Furthermore, shipping security is influenced by other electronic navigation tools, including Echo Sounder, Speed Log, Automatic Identification System (AIS), Radio Detection and Ranging (RADAR), and Global Positioning System (GPS). In addition, marine maps have an important role in navigation, which is useful as a key to entering or leaving a port. The purpose of this paper is to know and understand the role and operation of ECDIS and other electronic navigation tools in drafting shipping lanes in the work area of Class II Navigation District Semarang as an effort to navigate safety in KN.Karimun Jawa. The data collection method used was field research methods, namely observation and interview techniques, as well as literature study methods. The result of this paper is that the role of the electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) and other electronic navigation tools in the drafting of shipping lanes in the work area of the Class II Navigation District of Semarang as an effort to navigate safety at KN.Karimun Jawa is very important for the ship's officers in order to navigate safely and secure. Keywords: ECDIS, Electronic Navigation Devices, KN. Karimun Jawa
