Abstract

Good protection can prevent ship hull from corrosion caused by sea water and air. Ship. Corrosion is a major problem in marine vessels caused by sea water conditions. The development of the maritime world in Indonesia has nevertheless made the industry engaged in shipbuilding increasingly has good prospects, the shipbuilding process has many stages of the process and takes a long time, wrong one is the sandblasting process. Sandblasting is one of the easiest methods to remove rust and dirt such as oil, paint, etc. on the surface or to change the character of the surface of the material, either to make it rougher or to make a surface smoother. By applying the process in the system, namely the dry sandblasting process and wet sandblasting. The purpose of this observation is to determine the treatment in this sandblasting process which can reduce corrosion and can reduce damage to the ship, from this process it can produce good workmanship for seaworthiness on ships. Data collection methods used were literature study, observation and interview methods. The result of the observation is that the writer can find out the process of spraying the material, usually in the form of silica sand or steel grit with high pressure on a surface. The aim is to remove contaminant materials such as rust, paint, salt, oil etc. In addition, it also aims to make a profile (roughness) on the metal surface in order to achieve a good level of adhesion between metal surfaces and protective materials such as paint. The degree of roughness can be adjusted according to the size of the sand and the pressure. It is necessary to note that the success or failure of a painting depends on the level of cleanliness and the level of adhesion between the paint and the surface as well as the density and evenness of the paint itself. At the time of writing this paper, at the time of sandblasting, safety must always be prioritized both individually and in groups. Care really needs to be done to overcome the damage to the sandblasting equipment. Perfection in sandblasting really needs to be done to support smoothness during sandblasting.
