Abstract

The development and growth that occurred in the city of Semarang was very rapid. The vehicle density which continues to increase every year causes several problems in the transportation sector. One of the problems that occurs is a traffic accident. Frequent accidents that occur result in reduced comfort and can even endanger the safety of a person's life. This study aims to determine the effect of vehicles, road capacity and population density on traffic accidents on Jalan Siliwangi, Semarang City, Central Java. The population in this study were motorcyclists who passed the Siliwangi road in Semarang City and the sample of this study was 100 respondents. The sampling technique is nonprobability sampling with the type of sampling, namely quota sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis with the help of (software) Statistic Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23. The results of the research by testing the t-test hypothesis indicate that vehicles, road capacity and population density have a negative and significant effect on traffic accidents. Based on the research results it can be seen that the research model of the multiple linear regression equation is: Y = 12,201 - 0,257X1 - 0,102X2 - 0,146X3 + µ. Based on empirical facts (the results of filling out the questionnaire) and the results of the multiple linear regression equation, it shows that the Vehicle variable (X1) has (tcount -5.634> ttable 1.98447), the Road Capacity variable (X2) (tcount -2.435> ttable 1.98447), and the Population Density variable (tcount -4,332> ttable 1.98447). Meanwhile, the value of Adjusted R2 = 0.528. This means that 52.8% of the variation in the dependent variable (Y), namely traffic accidents can be explained or caused by the independent variables, namely vehicles (X1), road capacity (X2), and population density (X3). While the remaining 100% - 52.8% = 47.2%, explained by causes other than the variables studied. Keywords: Vehicles, Road Capacity, Population Density and Traffic Accidents
