Abstract
Operation Of Ballast Pump In Ship MT. Martha Tender PT. Waruna Nusa Sentana Jakarta Ballast pump is one of the most important auxiliary machines in the system ballast to maintain balance and facilitate ship activities. The author observes the problem of ballast pump effectiveness, operation, and maintenance of repairing. The aim of this paper is to find out the effectiveness of the ballast pump, the operation of the ballast pump, and the maintenance of the ballast pump which has a great influence on the smooth running of the ship when the ship sails. This observation was carried out on MT. MARTHA TENDER. She is owned by PT. WARUNA NUSA SENTANA. The writer spent twelve months for sea project training. Sources of data is obtained by primary data, directly research site, observation and interview with the chief engineer (KKM) and crew members. Documents and literature relating to the title of the paper are also used for writing this paper. The results obtained from this study that the use of pump types affects the effectiveness of work and operation of ballast pumps. This consists of several steps in accordance with the essential operation, maintenance and repair manual of the pump to extend service life. It is recommended to select the type of pump. If must be in accordance with the viscosity of the substance to be pumped, read the steps of operating the ballast pump before operating, and carry out maintenance according to the maintenance schedule in the manual book.
