Abstract

Fresh water generator, is one of the important auxiliary aircraft on board. This is because using FWG (Fresh water generator) can produce fresh water that can be used for drinking, cooking, washing and even running other important machines that use fresh water as a cooling medium. Based on the background of the problem with the Fresh water generator, problems can be formulated, including the decrease in fresh water production on the ship and the inability to reach the level of vacuum in the fresh water generator which results in not maximal performance of the fresh water generator on the ship. The aim of this writer is to determine the causes of the decline in fresh water production on ships and the absence of a vacuum level in the fresh water generator. Therefore the authors carried out observation interviews and data documentation during practice in the Class III Navigation District of Cilacap. In this paper it can be concluded that the cause of the decline in fresh water production on the ship is due to a clogged filter on the ejector pump due to dirt accumulating on the filter due to lack of maintenance and the inability to reach the level of vacuum due to damage to the rubber seal separator vessel in the Fresh Water system. The generator is because when replacing the rubber seal (rubber packing) on the front cover of the Fresh Water Generator, the glue residue and the old rubber seal fragments are not cleaned properly so that it can block the installation of the new rubber seal and cause cavities resulting in leaks on the sea water system. And it is recommended to always carry out routine checks and maintenance on fresh water generator. Kata kunci : Fresh Water Generator, Operation, maintenance
