Abstract

This paper is prepared with the intention to dig up information about the activities in the process of maintenance and repair of containers owned by shipping company PT. Meratus Line, by the Repair Container division. The background of the problem that the writer raised is to find out how important the role of the container repair division is to shipping companies, seeing that many unsuitable containers are buried inside the depot and are not operated according to their functions, bearing in mind the company operates more than 40,000 container boxes. In addition, this paper also tries to explain what forms of damage are common to the components and parts of the container and the cause of the damage. Next, try to deepen the discussion by reviewing what actions are taken to prevent further damage from using containers in the long run, as well as discussing actions to repair containers that have indicated damage and do not meet the eligibility to load cargo. The data collection process carried out during land practice (PRADA) uses several methods including the method of observation, interviews with resource persons, document analysis, and literature study with the results obtained that the repair container division is one of the divisions that has an important role for shipping companies. With proper management, the performance of the container repair division can facilitate the loading and unloading operational activities, as well as being able to meet the need for the availability of suitable containers to load cargo owned by customers or consignees.
