Abstract

Most of international trading in Indonesia are conducted via ocean routes by using ships as a mean of transportation. According to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) convention, all ships should have Electronic Navigational Chart (ENC) applied with ECDIS. Furthermore, the safety of voyage is influenced by other electronic navigation equipments, such as Echo Sounder, Speed Log, Automatic Identification System (AIS), Radio Detection and Ranging (RADAR), and Global Positioning System (GPS). In addition, the nautical chart has an important role in navigation, which is useful as a key to entering or exiting a port. The purpose of this study is to know and understand the role of ECDIS and other electronic navigation equipments in the preparation of passage plan as a safety effort of KN.Karimun Jawa. Data collection methods used were field research methods, which using observation and interview techniques, and literature study methods. The result of this study is that the role of ECDIS and other electronic navigation equipments in shaping the passage plan as a safety effort of KN.Karimun Jawa is very important for the ship's officers in order to navigate safely.
