Abstract

Tanjung Emas Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) is a service implemented by the Tanjung Emas Class II Class Navigation Distric, Directorate General of Sea Communications, designed to improve the safety of sea life, safety and efficiency in navigating and preventing damage to the marine environment due to shipwreck collision or which can cause pollution in the waters of Tanjung Emas port. Port of Tanjung Emas Semarang is supporting the activity of sea freight transport flow and the driving force in increasing economic growth in Central Java. Therefore, the port of Tanjung Emas shipping route that has a high enough density requires information about navigating to enter the harbor shipping passage for sailing vessels. In order to support the safety of vessel traffic service operation VTS (VTS) illustrates the level of good navigational service, to provide information for ships that will enter the port of Tanjung Emas shipping lanes. This study aims to determine the requirements and requirements of safety equipment standards and to know about the role of VTS. The method used in this research is Obsevation and Documentation subjectively. Indonesia is a country with a high accident rate on boats and a low level of security for shipping especially when a vessel crosses a territory of a commercial voyage. So the Government of Indonesia seeks to minimize the level of accidents at sea. Based on that then the safety equipment is needed. With the operation of VTS can reduce the number of ship accidents and improve security in the shipping flow. Keywords: Vessel Traffic Service (VTS), Port of Tanjung Emas, Semarang
