Abstract
In the writing of this paper, the author tries to raise the problem of "Optimization of crew skills in the preparation of operating life saving appliance and fire fighting appliance and mechanism of care in MT.Layar Arthawibawa". In order to extinguish fires on board depending on the location of the fire, the procedure for separating the fire triangle by decomposition, cooling, and isolation / localization techniques. Since fires are one of the risks that can occur anytime and anywhere in shipping vessels, the risk of fire on ships is quite large as the number of fire cases is ranked second after the number of sinking vessels. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) issued several regulations aimed at ensuring the safety of ship operations and pollution prevention, one of which is SOLAS 74 (Safety of Life at Sea). Related to the high level of fire risk that can occur in ships and causing financial losses large enough even to swallow casualties that the number is not small, it is necessary a fire prevention system, especially on the ship Tanker.tujuan from this research is to know the procedure and how to extinguish the fire in MT.LAYAR ARTHAWIBAWA.Method data collection on this paper using the way field observation, literature, and interviews. The conclusion of this paper is that the crew can know and understand firsthand how the procedure and how to cope and extinguish the fire on board, based on the cause of the fire and the type of firefighter to extinguish the fire.
