Abstract
The welding process is widely used to connect metals. However, not all metals can be joined by a welding process, especially metals - different types of metals. Differences in melting temperature and other physical properties make welding of different types of metals difficult. Solid welding processes such as diffusion bonding can overcome the problem of connecting different types of metals. Many factors affect the quality of different types of metal connections, one of which is temperature and length of holding time. This research has focused only on observing the influence of time on physical and mechanical properties in specimens of ST 90 steel and gray cast iron. The connection of ST 90 steel with gray cast iron has been done by varying the length of holding time, which is 2 hours, 4 hours and 6 hours. The jointing is carried out using ordinary heat treatment furnaces at 900 ºC. After the connection is formed the sample is cut into 10 parts for shear testing and observation of the microstructure of the connection. Keywords: Holding, shear strength, microstructure.
