Abstract

The working principle of the ship Intercooler is to cool the engine room rinse air that will be used for combustion of the main engine that is sucked up by the turbocharger to smooth the burners on the diesel engine. Therefore, the relatively small specific heat from the air, the type of cooler with winged pipes is always used. These wings are installed on the outside of pipes or on the side of the air with the aim of extending the surface of heat transfer from air to sea water. According to Slamet. Ray (2002). Intercoolers are widely incorporated in the refrigeration industry after being compressed in the first stage to improve the performance of compressors and engines. At the base intercooler is a temperature modifier and in the industry is well known as a load reliever or cooler. The working principle of the ship Intercooler is to cool the air that will be used for combustion of the main engine which is sucked by the Turbocharger to smooth the combustion in the diesel engine. Therefore, the relatively small specific heat from the air, the type of cooler with winged pipes is always used. These wings are installed on the outside of pipes or on the side of the air with the aim of extending the surface of heat transfer from air to sea water. In writing this paper will also discuss about how to maintain the main engine intercooler properly Keywords: Maintence, Intercooler and Air Rinse
