Abstract

Sea water pollution caused by oil spills occur frequently. Many things were cause explosion as offshore oil rigs, tanker accidents, tanker operations, and building offshore. The oil spill is one type of pollution that effect is large enough in the long term. Oil spills at sea are often caused by pollution which leads to damage of the biological resources and destruction of underwater ecosystems, so many fishermen cannot be fishing or surrounding communities for fishing. And of course, the economic will give the impact on fishing activity this area. Some cases of sea water pollution caused by oil spills should be considered for the prevention and mitigation for the creation of the sustainability of the lives of organisms that live in it. Therefore, we must maintained the ecosystem by not disposing of waste, oil or garbage into the sea so that the ecosystem is maintained. As for the problem of pollution of the sea against the operator of loading and unloading procedures in a tanker that is less than optimal loading and unloading safety procedures were carried aboard the tanker, causing overload in a cargo tank which resulted in an oil spill from the ship. It should be mandatory to remember for the officer of the watch and also the crew watch as the ship was doing loading and unloading at the port in order to always check the cargo in a cargo tank to prevent overloading resulting in oil spills at sea, as well as some of the factors that influence the occurrence oil spill that is the lack of experience the crew working on board, the lack of discipline and understanding of procedures, loading and less optimal working equipment of facilities in the implementation of countermeasures against oil spills on the tanker as well as lack of responsibility and the knowledge and skills of children ships to overcome pollution that causes of the oil spill. The purpose of it all is the prevention of pollution in the sea and also that we are all always preserve and underwater ecosystem. Here is a way for oil spill response at sea that we can use the oil boom is a useful tool to localize oil spills that oil spills are not spread because of drifting. In addition we are also able to use absorbent and sawdust if the oil spill were on the ship deck because these items can absorb oil. After that we can use oil spill dispersant because the chemical liquid is break down the oil spill which is mixed with water.
