Abstract
Navigating a ship is a part of a sailing from one place to another. The knowledge of navigation equipment is very important equipment to assist an officer of the watch on board of a bridge in sailing ship. The rules about navigation equipment on board are stated on SOLAS 1974/1978. Safety of life at sea or abbreviated as SOLAS is a maritime safety rules on board of a ship while sailing across the sea. Navigation equipment is a useful equipment to navigating a ship while sailing. Various kind of navigation equipment on board, such as : Navigation lights, Magnetic compass, RADAR, etc. The purpose of this study is to know the basic knowledge to navigate according to SOLAS 1974/1978. The methods of data collection used in writing this study were the method of interview, observation method and literature method. The results of this study that the implementation of basic knowledge to navigate in according with SOLAS 1974/1978 is as required by SOLAS 1974/1978. Keywords : Navigation, SOLAS, KM.
