Abstract
The diesel engine is used as the ultimate driving machine on board. The existence of a diesel engine on board is important, where the diesel engine in the operation aimed at the smooth operation of the cruise. This paper aims to determine: 1) how to operate a diesel engine driving the generator; 2) how to care of a diesel engine driving the generator. Source of data used in the form of primary data obtained from direct observation in the MT. MAIDEN on Multi Jaya Ocean Shipping Company and secondary data obtained from various sources as a complement to primary data. The data collection is done by observation, discussion, and literature. Operation and maintenance of diesel engine driving the generator includes: 1) preparation of the operation of the generator; 2) running the generator; 3) checks when the generator operates; 4) turn off the generator; 5) generator maintenance. It is advisable to perform maintenance on diesel engine generator regularly, according to the manual book and the work. Key word : Generator, operation, maintenance
