Abstract

A windlass is an anchor crane set onboard for lifting and stretching anchors through an anchor tube (hawse pipe). The windlass of the should be placed in a bowled-out position so as to facilitate the operation anchor. The author describes some problems about the maintenance and operation of an windlass on KM. SENTOSA 207. The problem is how to operate windlass, how to maintenance and how to repair it. In this paper the author used observation methods, interviews and literature to collect data. This is done to discuss the problems that occured on KM. SENTOSA 207. To solve the problem, there wese found some ways of operation, how to maintenance and how to repair it. The conclusions are, firstly it should be paid attention to allow the instruction of the operational from the factory. Next, a well maintenance will cause the optimal windlass operation. It is better to know the problems on the windlass before repair it. The suggestions of this paper are it should be any routine and periodic maintenance. It is in order to the windlass can operate normally. The last suggestions is by giving the lubrication on the windlass. Keywords: windlass, operation, maintenance
