Abstract

Leadership has long existed and is an important element in an organization/group, both formal and informal on board. The leader needs to perform his function proportionally so that the achievement of group goals is guaranteed to be good and avoid non-functional behaviors, because it can hamper the achievement of goals. This paper tries to explain various things about leadership, such as definitions, theories, styles and functions of leadership. In conclusion, expressing an understanding of various aspects of leadership and human needs, including follower /subordinates, is very important for a leader, because it is related to motivation. By understanding the needs of followers, then a leader will be able to determine the right way to be used in motivating followers to achieve organizational goals, so that eventually it must be realized that the role of leadership in an organization is very important.
