Abstract

Fresh Water Generator (FWG) is a freshwater craftsman by evaporating seawater in evaporator and the seawater is cooled by condensation in a Distillation / condenser (condenser) plane, resulting in condensate water called condensate. Fresh water generator, is one of the important auxiliary aircraft on board. This is because with the use of FWG (Fresh water generator) can produce fresh water that can be used for drinking, cooking, washing and even running other important machines that use fresh water as a cooling medium. In FWG Freshwater is generally produced using evaporation methods. So the fresh water is produced by evaporation of seawater by using heat from one of the heat sources. Generally the available heat source is taken from the main engine water jacket, which is used to cool the main engine components such as cylinder head, liner etc. The temperature generated from the water jacket is about 70 degrees Celsius. But at this temperature the water evaporation is not maximal, as we know that evaporation of water occurs at 100 degrees Celsius under atmospheric pressure. So in order to produce clean water at 70 degrees we need to reduce atmospheric pressure, which is done by creating a vacuum inside the chamber where evaporation takes place. Also, as a result of the cooling vacuum from seawater evaporates at a lower temperature, Water will be cooled and collected and then transferred to the tank. At this time most Ships use the method, reverse osmosis is one of the methods used in the deck to produce fresh water.
