Abstract

FRESH WATER COOLING SYSTEM TO SUPPORT PERFORMANCE OF THE MAIN ENGINE IN MV BERKAH 99 Cooling is a medium that functions to absorb heat can be obtained from the combustion of the fuel in the cylinder. Inside the cooling system there are several components thar work in relation to one another : cooler, fresh water circulation pump, sea water pump, strainer on sea water and sea chest. Of these four components that ofthen cause a lack of maximum cooling water in its function is vital in maintaining smooth operation of the main engine.. In order a Diesel Engine building to be maintaines from the stresses due to heat, the heat that arises must be controlled this situation can only be overcome by circulating (circulating) the cooling medium with a constant pressure to all components of the main motor such as the cylinder jacket cooling, cylinder head, and injector. This system must be a monitoring for the engine crew so that the flow of coolant is always smooth. The top of the cylinder is the hottest part oh the top and some of the heat of combustion gas is transferred directly to the cooling fluid. As for the bottom of the cylinder, heat transfer to the cooling fluid occurs indirectly, so through the piston and piston rings, If cooling cannot be done as well ass possible, then the temperature of each cylinder section will rise. This situation will result in demage to the combustion chamber wall due to the occurrence of thermal stress or demage to valves, piston peaks and piston ring congestion. In addotion, lubricating oil will evaporate and burn so that rapid wear accurs on the piston and cylinder walls, but also results in engine disruption
