Abstract

Oily Water Separator or OWS is a machinery on board that use to separate oil and water in engine room, OWS is one of the requirements of marpol 1978 ANNEX-1 (regulation No. 1) that contains procedures for disposal of waste oil from ship to overboard. Every engineer on board knows the system of maintenance and operation of Oil Water Separator but there are still many things that are still underestimated by the engineer that eventually resulted in damage to the engine Oil Water Separator. For that we must realize the importance of maintenance and operation of Oil Water separator. Because with the appropriate operatios procedure Oily Water Separator must always be ready for its use, therefore routine maintenance is required for prevention of pollution by oil in the sea and surrounding areas.
