Abstract
Process to process saltwater / brackish into fresh water or often known as desalination can be grouped into 3 (three) kinds namely 1. The process of distillation (flute). 2. ion exchange process and 3. filtration process. The distillation process utilizes heat energy to evaporate salt water. The water vapor is then cooled to water points and the results are collected as fresh clean water. The desalination process uses ion exchange techniques using chemical processes to separate salt in water. In this process ion salts (Na Cl) are exchanged with ions such as Ca + 2 and SO4-2. Ion exchange materials come from natural or synthetic materials. Natural ion exchange materials such as zeolites while synthetic resins (cation resins and anion resins). The third desalination process uses a semipermeable filter to separate salt molecules in water. This third process is better known as the reverse osmosis system. The specialty of this process is being able to filter out molecules larger than water molecules. The brine / brackish water treatment model described in this paper is the result of a Clean Water Group team design with a capacity of 30 m3 / day.
