Abstract

An anchor is a ship fastening device to the bottom of the water, on the sea, river or lake so that the ship cannot move due to gusts of wind, currents or waves. Anchor is one of the mandatory tools on board considering its function as a tool to hold the ship motion and remain in his position. Steam, hydraulic and electrical power anchor drive machines, for vessels below 200 grt can use manual winches, which are hand-driven. The type of propulsion has different advantages, for example the steam system has a large capacity and is protected from short-voltage hazards, but the ship must have a steam boiler, usually for large vessels of a tanker type. If the anchor machine is equipped with a chain stopper that is attached to the forecastle deck, then this tool must have the ability to break up 80% of the chain breaking load. If the chain stopper is not installed, the anchor machine must be able to withstand pulling with a breaking load of 80% of the chain breaking load with no deformation on the equipment also slip on the braking system.
