Abstract

Operation and Maintenance of Steering Machines In. MV. Kelimutu PT. PELNI SEMARANG Steering gears are a machine that uses a hydraulic system to move the steering wheel of a ship. The nature of the hydraulic system that is not noisy (silent operation), smooth motion, capable of working in various weather conditions is very suitable to be applied to steering gears on ships. Hydraulic hand machines are used in non propeller barges and are also used on low tonnage vessels and are used for stand-by for engine-powered hydraulic engines. (Alex Ferdinand - 2001) The operation of the steering engine is very important. Operating is not only running, moving, but also responsible for travel. Because of its important role, it is necessary to have care to protect the machine and avoid damage to both the components and other equipment related to the steering engine. Maintenance and repair of steering engines suppressing liquids, caring for pipes used for the flow of liquid from the hydraulic pump to the steering shaft, maintaining the electricity flow is very important to drive the steering engine.
