Abstract

Protection of the hull against corrosion using the cathodic protection method.In principle, electrochemical cells to control corrosion by concentrating the reaction of oxygen on galvanic cells and suppress corrosion at the cathode in the same cell. In cathodic protection, the metal to be protected is made into a cathode and oxidation reactions occur at the anode. Therefore, protection against corrosion is very important to do, the choice of anode type and determining the number of anode requirements is equally important. There are two types of cathodic protection used, namely MGPS (Marine Growth Prevention System) and SACP (Sacrificial Anode Cathodic Protection) where in determining the number of anode can be done through observation of existing rules, as well as experience in the field and interviews can be used as a consideration in determining the anode type and estimating the anode requirements. The two systems are compared over a period of 20 years, from a technical point of view using comparative calculations according to the DnV standard, which are compared from the design stage, the installation stage, and maintenance. The results of the design stage have a wider MGPS protection level capable of covering an area while for SACPn with a total aluminum weight able to cover an area. Summarize the results at the Installation stage where the SACP system tends to be easier than the MGPS system. And for the maintenance stage where the MGPS system is superior to the SACP system.
