Abstract
INTERCOOLER MAIN ENGINE MAINTENANCE SYSTEM ON BOARD MV. CTP INNOVATION Forced induction on a diesel motor is a mechanical method for compressing air before entering into a cylinder with pressure above atmospheric pressure. By compressing air before entering the cylinder, the effective capacity of the motor will increase without increasing its physical size. One of the mechanical devices used to push air into these cylinders is turbocharge, which is driven directly following the motor crankshaft rotation. In the process of compressing the air is always accompanied by rising temperatures through a compressive heating process, resulting in the problem of "diesel knock" during combustion. To eliminate this loss, the intercooler is added into the system to lower the air temperature before entering the cylinder. In this experiment, a direct injection motor injection of MAN B & W 8S 35MC was used, in order to compare how much influence the use of forced induction system with and without intercooler on motor performance. The experimental results show that by using forced induction equipped with intercooler, brake horsepower, torque and thermal efficiency are respectively increasing by 19.46%, 16.89%, and 23.77% and a decrease in specific fuel consumption by 18 , 99%. Keywords: Forced induction, direct injection, turbocharge, intercooler.
