Abstract

Oil pollutiom result in the reduction of enviromental capacity which can disturb the life of aquatic organism, the waste water from engine room of the vessel is one of the source oil pollution. Based on International maritime organization ( IMO )recommendation which are less than 15 ppm, vessel measuring above 100 Gross Tonnage (GT) must use OWS (Oil Water Separator) as the equipment to separate water and oil. Basically the separation process is carried out in accordance with the difference is specific gravity in which the water type is greater than the specific gravity of the oil so that when the separation process occurs the water will be at the top, than the collected oil will be discharged in to the sluge tank and the sewer water a maximum contamination of oil conten of 15 PPM will be discharged out.
