Abstract
The agency is a unit in a shipping company that is engaged in for service to the ship. ship principal (foreign shipping company) while in the harbor. The basis of the performance of the ship's agent is in the ETA (Estimate time Arrived) or estimated time of arrival of the vessel and ETD (Estimate Time Depatured) or estimated time of departure of the ship. After leaving the ship, the ship's agent must be accountable for all expenses on the ship belonging to the principal that occurred during the in port. Analysis performed was to study the performance of the ship's agent when dealing with principal owned vessels in the harbor, the service system that prevailed in the harbor and institutions involved in optimizing the performance of the agent role as sub-agents. The method used is a field study to determine directly the performance of the ship's agent, as well as literature study to obtain reference data relating to ships agency problems. It is hoped the results of analysis of the performance of the ship's agent then handling agency serves ships and liability obligations in processes occurring inside the port Tanjung Priok, can find a way out to overcome the problems arising from the processing of documents in the harbor which is the process of clearance in doing sub-agents as a company designated by the General agent to serve ships principal (foreign shipping companies) to use his services in the country.
